Bettie Page, sans the bangs

From a homemade scrapbook found in a dumpster in the 1960s. Side by side photos of Bettie, one of them sans the ubiquitous Bettie bangs. Yep, I’m one of those rare people who are not obsessed with Bettie Page. I was tired of the Bettie cult by 1985. Not her fault, she’s great, but the unending Bettie worship wears thin. But some photos are impossible to pass up. Like this one from Vintage Sleaze.

Tom Waits, Elvira, and Elvis

Did you know the stripper on the cover of Tom Waits’ 1976 album, Small Change, is none other than Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark)? Born in Kansas and raised in Colorado, young Cassandra made a beeline for Las Vegas just days after her 1967 high school graduation, soon becoming the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history—not to mention the girlfriend of one Elvis Aaron Presley.
